International Conference on Security Sector Reform in Bratislava

Stronger and more responsible security sectors will help prevent conflicts, as preventing conflicts is much more effective than resolving them, said Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčak (a Smer-SD nominee) at the opening of a two-day international conference on security sector governance and reform in Bratislava. "Prevention is invisible. It is difficult to track, measure or prove. However, when security sectors are weakened and falling apart, the results are not invisible. They strike the eyes and have devastating consequences," said Lajčak, who is currently the acting chairman of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). The security sector's governance and reform is one of the issues that the Slovak OSCE presidency is focused on in 2019. It's concurrently a long-term priority of Slovakia's foreign policy.
