Slovak delegation at UN Summit on climate change

Slovakia is taking part in Monday's UN Summit on climate change held in New York, with Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová giving a speech. Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák, accompanying Čaputová, noted that not every leader has been granted this opportunity, explaining that only around half of the EU presidents will deliver speeches. "On the one hand, it confirms our interest in this issue and that we recognise its gravity; on the other; it proves that Slovakia's name has a ring to it in the UN," said Lajčák. The Slovak Foreign Minister feels that there are expectations that the summit could be a turning point. "We're still not meeting our commitments; we're failing to stop global warming, the process is continuing instead," he said. Lajčák also stressed that Slovakia is the only Visegrad Four country (V4: Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland) to join the cause of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
