American resolution commemorating Slovak and Czech anniversaries

The Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry on Thursday appreciated that the Senate of the US Congress has adopted a resolution commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution as well as the creation of the First Czechoslovak Republic in 1918 and the independent Slovak Republic in 1993. According to the ministry, the resolution was presented by ranking member of the US Senate committee on foreign relations subcommittee on Europe and regional security co-operation Jeanne Shaheen along with subcommittee chair Ron Johnson. The document highly praises the development in both Slovakia and the Czech Republic over the past 30 years, appreciates the contribution of both countries as members of NATO to defending and promoting the common values of democracy and freedom and confirms the close friendship and alliance of the USA with the two countries. The Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry noted that the resolution is a confirmation of excellent bilateral relations between Slovakia and the USA, adding that these relations have recently passed through a significant development in several areas. "At the same time, we view the adoption of the resolution as an important and positive impulse from the US Senate for making the maximum effort to preserve the strong transatlantic bond, which, despite the current difficult development in world policies, has no alternative," stated the ministry.
