Nuclear power plants back on the agenda

Nuclear power plants back on the agenda

Current European Union issues including the EU's multi-annual financial framework and the upcoming Brexit are on the agenda of a summit of prime ministers of the Visegrad Four (V4) countries (Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland), to be joined later by Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, on Thursday. The prime ministers should also discuss issues such as climate change and EU energy policy. The leaders of EU countries, with the exception of Poland, agreed in Brussels in December on a joint procedure to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Slovakia supports the Czech Republic in its opinion that achieving carbon neutrality is possible only with the use of nuclear energy. The Austrians are critical of Czech nuclear power stations.
