President Zuzana Caputova, who is the commander-in-chief of the Slovak Armed Forces, on Thursday visited the Ground Forces Command and the NATO Ordnance Disposal Centre of Excellence in Trencin, western Slovakia. Caputova praised the performance of both units and highlighted the efforts of soldiers in the aftermath of a massive gas blast in an apartment block in Presov, eastern Slovakia, that claimed the lives of several people last month. On Friday, the President was to meet with her predecessors for a joint lunch on Friday. In the past, presidents have also met over lunch to start a new year. The last invitation was extended by former president Andrej Kiska (2014-19) to his predecessors Ivan Gasparovic (2004-14) and Rudolf Schuster (1999-2004). Back then, the discussed issues of the day were the upcoming presidential elections and the selection of new Constitutional Court judges.
