Adjustment to road tax amounts to €30 mln

The Finance Ministry will submit a legislative proposal to adjust the motor vehicles tax in the amount of approximately €30 million, Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenický (Smer-SD) said on Wednesday following talks with Transport Minister Arpad Érsek (Most-Hid) and representatives of the largest road hauliers association CESMAD Slovakia. On Wednesday, the Government approved a draft regulation to provide toll reductions based on kilometres travelled from the first kilometre. "We were unable to meet the demands submitted by Slovak Hauliers Union, because European legislation sets us some limits, that is 13 percent and they wanted 25 percent, so this was impossible, but it's desirable that we double the discounts that have been given so far," said Érsek. The protesting Slovak Hauliers Union (UNAS) lifted its blockade of border crossings, but it remains on alert.
