President Zuzana Caputova sent a telegram of condolences to her German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier over Wednesday's shooting in the town of Hanau. "I believe that every attack rooted in xenophobia or extremism must be resolutely condemned," wrote the President. On behalf of Slovakia, she sent her sympathies to the affected families and bereaved and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The shooter, identified as Tobias R., 43, shot dead nine people at two shisha bars on Wednesday. His body was later found dead in his flat along with his dead 72-year-old mother. Meanwhile, the Turkish Embassy in Berlin reported that five Turkish nationals were among the victims.
The perpetrator left behind a video containing extremist far-right views, in which he claimed responsibility for the attack.
