Cibulková earns greatest success of her career

Slovak female tennis player Dominika Cibulková won the 2016 WTA Finals in Singapore on Sunday. In the final she defeated German Angelique Kerber, who is also the current world number one 6:3, 6:4, thus becoming the winner of the closing tournament of the season, where the top 8 players compete. "What more can I say about such a nice match and performance than from the first to the last ball I played my tennis greatly and aggressively," said Cibulková, who lost against Kreber in the group stage of the tournament. "The loss gave me the confidence that I can beat her if I play well and if I play my style. I did so, I attacked from the forehand, I had great service; all the aspects worked and this is the greatest moment of my career." said Cibulková, who has thus also earned the greatest individual success in tennis in Slovak history.

In 2002 Janette Husárová won the WTA finals in doubles alongside with Russian Jelena Dementieva. Thanks to the biggest success of her career Cibulková moved to the fifth place in the WTA ranking, equalling the best position of a Slovak player reached by Daniela Hantuchová in 2003.
