On Europe Day in 2023, i.e. 9 May 2023, the International Press Institute presented in Bratislava a report mapping the impact political parties and oligarchs have on media in Slovakia. The document is part of the Media Freedom Rapid Response, a project that monitors press and media freedom and provides support in order to protect journalists and media workers in EU member states and candidate countries. A day after the World Press Freedom Day (3 May), Cilla Benkö, the CEO and Director General of the Swedish Radio presented in Bratislava 4 pillars on which public service media should be based. Sharing the information proved a rather different situation in Sweden and Slovakia. Presenting the results of his research on media capture was journalist and author of the report entitled “Media capture in Slovakia”, Peter Hanák.
