Slovak animated films in Annecy
4 films in Slovak co-production were selected for the official competition programme at one of Europe’s most prestigious festivals of animated films in the French city Annecy. Two feature length and two short films thus claimed the biggest success for the production of animated films in Slovakia. As Lea Pagacova from the Slovak Film Institute stated, this success proves the vital condition of Slovak animation, the talent of local filmmakers as well as producers who managed to bring international co-productions to an end. The festival’s main competition section featured the feature length film Tony, Shelly and the magic light as well as White plastic sky that premiered this year at the Berlin International Film Festival. Two shorts include Electra shot by student Oscar awardee Daria Kashcheeva. Her film was selected for the shorts main competition while Money and Happiness was selected for the competition section entitled Perspectives. The Slovak entries will be screened at the festival this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 15 through 17 June.
