The New Drama festival presenting the latest stage of contemporary theatre in Slovakia was organized for the 20th year. In 2024, the Theatre Institute invited a special guest to be the patron of this jubilee year of this event. The Nigerian author writing in English, the 1986 Nobel prize laureate for literature, the first Sub-Saharan African Nobel prize awardee, playwright Wole Soyinka has also been known for his criticism of military dictators and political tyrannies. In Bratislava, Wole Soyinka held a masterclass, coincidently, a day before the assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister.
