Culture: Bratislava celebrates architecture and design

The Days of Architecture and Design (DAAD) are being held this year in conjunction with the Days of Architecture and Film (DAAF). The 15th edition of the DAAD was officially opened on Tuesday (May 28) in the atrium of the Slovak National Gallery (SNG) in Bratislava. The program offers lectures, discussions, presentations, exhibitions and documentaries. "This year, the festival focuses on local young architectural studios," say the organizers of the event, the venue of which is also the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Slovak Technical University (FAD STU) and the Primate's Palace.

Authors who have completed their first projects and achieved success in architectural competitions are presented. In total, 18 architectural entities present their work, which will form the focal point, a generation of contemporary architecture in Slovakia.

The main guest of the event, which will last in the capital until Sunday, June 2, is the Prague architect and popularizer of architecture Adam Gebrian. "We can have the best architects in the world, but as long as people don't care where they live, architects won't do anything about it," says Gebrian.

In cooperation with the DAAD festival, the Fresh Fruits platform organizes lectures and discussions on Thursday at SNG, which are part of the Singularch project - a series of informal meetings with young and high-quality architecture. "They present unique procedures and projects from local and foreign ateliers," explains Martin Brix one of the organizers of the event, where the Swiss studio Maclver-Ek Chevroulet, based in Zurich, will be presented. Before the lecture by foreign guests, Slovak architect Martin Skoček will present his work.
