On Wednesday, 7 August 2024, the Culture Ministry dismissed Alexandra Kusa from the post of Slovak National Gallery (SNG) director due to the alleged institution's ineffective management.
Vice-chair of the parliamentary culture and media committee Zora Jaurova pointed out that although the culture minister can dismiss heads of institutions under the authority of the ministry, she must have sufficiently serious reasons for doing so, according to the law. "In the case of Matej Drlicka, she did so by means of a decree that was delivered to his home and which doesn't contain any reasons at all," said Jaurova.
In the case of Alexandra Kusa, the former director general of the Slovak National Gallery, the Culture Ministry criticised procedures she implemented during the gallery’s reconstruction.
