The film Ema and the Death’s Head, featuring Alexandra Borbély and Milan Ondrík, has won the Best Screenplay award at the Dunav Film Fest in Serbia. The film was selected from eight entries by the international jury.
“This recognition underscores the importance of our film’s theme—whether we can remain righteous in the face of the toughest circumstances,” said the director Iveta Grófová, who adapted the film from Peter Krištúfek’s novel. The movie, set in 1942, follows Marika, a Hungarian widow who loses her job at an Aryanized tailor shop and must navigate danger while hiding a Jewish boy.
The film premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and will open the 19th Cinematik Film Festival in Piešťany on September 10. It is scheduled for theatrical release in Slovakia on September 26 by Magic Box Slovakia.
