The abolition of license fees for the public broadcaster, the dismissal of top managers from prominent Slovak cultural institutions, the disruption of grant schemes for the audiovisual industry and independent cultural organizations, and two petitions—each with 200,000 signatures—calling for the resignation of the Culture Minister and the Ministry's Chief of Staff. In short, this was 2024 for culture in Slovakia.
Following the first-ever strike by employees of the national public broadcaster on 10 June 2024, 13 June was a unique day in the 96-year history of public service media in Slovakia. Both parts of the current national public broadcaster, Radio and Television, united and dedicated programmes, shows, debates, documentaries and news to explaining the role and importance of public media and its public service.
As Radio Slovakia International is part of the national public broadcaster, the program on 13 June was all about public service media.
