Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová has dismissed the director of the Slovak Literary Centre, Pavol Sibyla, without providing a reason, the centre’s social media profile reported.
“The director of the centre, Pavol Sibyla, was handed a letter from the Minister of Culture dated 8 January, dismissing him from his post without any explanation,” the Slovak Literary Centre’s profile stated.
Sibyla is a Slovak publicist and writer. Over two decades, he has contributed to Slovak media, including six years as a reporter for the weekly Trend. Before his media career, he worked as a historian at the museum in Rimavská Sobota, later serving as the head of the Department of Internal Policy at the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic. For three years, he led the Stop Corruption Foundation. Sibyla has been the director of the Slovak Literary Centre since 2022.
Gustáv Murín will be appointed as the acting statutory director. The Slovak Ministry of Culture has identified him as a person with extensive experience in literature, journalism, and international cooperation.
