Slovaks think unemployment should be EP's top priority

Slovaks think that the European Parliament's main priority should be unemployment and that the protection of human rights should be protected and backed by it, according to a recent Eurobarometer survey discussed by Slovak MEPs in Bratislava. Other priorities should be consumer rights, the quality of health-related services, food safety, quality of life for farmers, and protecting freedom of speech and gender equality.

MEPs addressed questions that they think their supporters expect them to deal with during their terms in the EP. "First of all it's the climate change issue and combating the climate crisis. Then there are the issues of safety, borders, Europe's defence capabilities in the future, and, of course, there's also the issue of the arrival of digitisation and the EU's abilities to deal with the dramatic changes that await us," stated MEP Michal Šimečka, who ran for the coalition Progressive Slovakia-Together.
According to Robert Hajšel, who ran as a Smer-SD candidate, the climate change issue and protecting the environment are the two topics that young people expect the EP to deal with most of all. Eugen Jurzyca (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) thinks that the EP will soon address the issue of countries' debts, urging them not to go even further into debt.
