The German automotive group Volkswagen will close its European factories for two to three weeks. The last work shift at most facilities will be this Friday, March 20th, the company announced on Tuesday. The car manufacturer has taken this decision due to the spread of coronavirus and the difficulties it is causing in the automotive market. The second car maker to suspend production in Slovakia due to coronavirus, the French Groupe PSA, will do so as of Thursday, March 19th. "There are three reasons as to why this car maker is embracing this measure. Number one is the effort to protect our employees. The second reason is the fact that complications with the supply of component parts have begun to emerge and, finally, we as a group are beginning to register a slump in demand in the automobile market," company spokesperson Peter Svec told TASR press agency.
