It will be possible to pay sums higher than €20 without having to enter PIN codes in Slovakia, as Parliament on Wednesday passed a bill increasing the limit for contactless payments to €50. The main goal of the law sponsored by the Finance Ministry is to reduce potential health risks related to the spread of coronavirus. The limit for individual payments will go up to €50, while the limit for cumulative or five consecutive payments will be €150. This change shouldn't apply to self-service facilities or virtual sales points, where lower maximum limits may be set due to the increased risk of unlawful conduct in the case of stolen or lost payment cards. Meanwhile, card users are allowed to decrease these limits themselves. The measure should only be in effect during the coronavirus pandemic.
