The Slovak Association of Hotels and Restaurants has expressed its disapproval of planned anti-coronavirus rules concerning the organising of indoor mass events, as it's of the opinion that it hasn't been demonstrated that the spread of the virus in the country has had anything to do with the holding of such events. At the same time, the association also objected to limiting visitor capacity at open air pools and aquaparks. Health Minister Marek Krajci (OLaNO) announced on Friday, following a session of the council of epidemiologists, that all outdoor events with attendance exceeding 1,000 people and all indoor events with attendance exceeding 500 visitors will be banned from September 1st until October 1st. At the same time, aquaparks and open air pools are obliged to limit their visitor capacity to 50 percent. The council also intends to ban all indoor events taking place after 11 p.m., except for weddings.
From the hoteliers' point of view, mass events could at least somewhat alleviate the economic problems of some city hotels when the summer season is over, as these facilities are dependent on mass gatherings. Company, social and private events could help several of them to survive 2020 and avoid bankruptcy.
