Over 193,000 people were accommodated in tourism facilities in Slovakia in June, which was five times as many as in May, the Statistics Office reported on Monday. However, the number of guests in hotels, guest houses and other accommodation facilities in Slovakia was still significantly lower than for the same period last year, going down 68.3% from June 2019.
Most (82.5%) of those staying at accommodation facilities were domestic tourists. As few as 33,800 foreigners were accommodated in Slovak facilities in June, compared to 242,400 guests from abroad reported for June 2019.
Visitors spent an average of three nights in accommodation facilities in Slovakia in June, with domestic guests spending an average of 3.1 nights and foreign ones 2.3 nights. The figures for June significantly influenced those for the first half of 2020.
A total of 1.3 million visitors were accommodated in Slovak facilities between January and June, down by some 50% from the same period of last year. Of this number, almost 902,000 were Slovaks and 420,000 foreigners. A total of 4,403 facilities provided accommodation services in Slovakia in late June 2020, offering 183,400 beds in 70,000 rooms. The number of rooms went down by 1,200 from last June and the number of beds dropped by 2,300.
