Volkswagen CEO Herbert Deiss confirmed that the company, which is one of the largest employers in Slovakia, is preparing to expand production capacities at its plant in Bratislava. Thus, the related investment should reach some €1 billion even though in July 2020, the carmaker promised in its joint declaration with the Slovak government to invest approximately a half - over €500 million in the country. In an interview for the German weekly Automobilwoche, Deiss explained that the reason behind the move is the fact that the carmaker's plans to set up a new plant that would have produced several models in Turkey have been dropped.
The carmaker is to produce its flagship Passat model and the premium Superb model of the Czech Škoda in Bratislava.
