In summer 2020, the European Commission approved an emergency recovery instrument, Next Generation EU, in order to help EU member states recover from economic losses due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Recovery and Resilience Facility is a central pillar of this instrument and within its framework Slovakia should be allocated around €5.8 billion. First, however, it has to come up with a recovery and resiliency plan describing how exactly the money will be used. In order for the plan to be accepted, it will have to comply with several criteria. One of them is that a minimum of 37% of this sum has to be related to climate. So, what is Slovakia planning to do with this unprecedented financial package? How will the money be disbursed? And, considering the climate criterion, into which climate measures is Slovakia planning to invest?
In order to find out, I spoke to the Prime Minister's Advisor for the Recovery and resilience plan Lívia Vašáková.
