Economy Minister Richard Sulík (Freedom and Solidarity) stated on Wednesday that he is willing to take charge of the Health Ministry if Prime Minister Igor Matovič (OĽaNO) finally dismisses interim Health Minister Marek Krajči (OĽaNO). According to Sulík, who viewed his proposal as a personal "sacrifice", Krajči has made many management mistakes. The economy minister remarked that he now refuses to be co-responsible for the development of the pandemic in Slovakia. On the other hand, the PM considers the proposal by Richard Sulík to be an absurd and bad joke. Matovič continues to blame Sulík for the bad epidemiological situation and claims that to make him the head of the Health Ministry would be like to "throw the cat among the pigeons". According to Matovič, the vice-premier has no moral right to criticise Krajči.
The For the People party offered Prime Minister Matovič to take over responsibility for the health care sector already in the autumn, party leader Veronika Remišová said on Wednesday. She added that they wanted the ministry to be led by an expert, not a political nominee. Moreover, Remišová thinks that a discussion on personnel changes between the coalition leaders should take place behind closed doors and not through the media. Repeated calls for the Healthcare Minister's demission have also come from the opposition.
Health Minister Marek Krajčí said in response to the calls on him leaving the office, that he is saddened by the words of Richard Sulík and some deputies from the For the People party. "I have very strong support from the Prime Minister and my own party," said Krajčí, adding that he "does not want to run away from the battlefield" and wants to continue as Minister.
