On Sunday, Economy Minister Richard Sulík and Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party chair said that he is ready to step down, if this becomes a condition for the resignation of Prime Minister Igor Matovič of the major governing Ordinary People party. Moreover, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Juraj Šeliga of the For the People party is also ready to leave his post, if it should help resolve the current coalition crisis. Freedom and Solidarity and some members of For the People are demanding the resignations of Matovič and Health Minister Marek Krajčí (both of Ordinary People). They criticize the management of the pandemic as well as the PM's governing style. In reaction to the calls for the PM's departure, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď (also of Ordinary People party) said that if Sulík decides to leave the coalition, the major governing party will respect that.
Naď also said that if Sulík wants the governing coalition to continue as a cooperation between the current four parties (Ordinary People, We Are Family, SaS and For the People), he should apologise for his behaviour, said Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď.
Speaker of Parliament and chair of the second largest governing We Are Family party Boris Kollár conceded a reconstruction of government, but said that replacing PM Matovič might not bring the desired effect. He noted that the presidium of We Are Family is due to hold a session on Wednesday to discuss their stance on the government crisis, before he himself convenes a Coalition Council meeting. Kollár also stated that does not want a government with minority support in Parliament.
On the other hand, opposition parties demand a replacement of the entire Government, with a caretaker cabinet composed of experts installed until a snap election.
