Economy Minister and leader of the junior coalition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party Richard Sulik says that he attended a Government meeting for the last time on Wednesday. Next week, he'll announce his resignation to President Zuzana Caputova. The other ministers representing the party will also gradually step down. This follows Sulik's statements that he doesn't believe Prime Minister Igor Matovic (OLaNO) will step down. He continues, however, to speak about a willingness to negotiate.
The government of Igor Matovič has been embroiled in a crisis over the circumstances surrounding the purchase of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine earlier in the month, although tensions within the coalition go back much earlier. They have been fed by disputes between Prime Minister Igor Matovič and Freedom and Solidarity party leader and Economy Minister Richard Sulík.
