Slovak Justice Minister Mária Kolíková enjoys strong support from the Prime Minister Eduard Heger as well as the government, said Kolíková herself on Monday morning ahead of the parliamentary session, with a no-confidence vote against her on the program.
The PM backed Kolíková of the For the People party in spite of the fact that his Ordinary people party was the only one out of coalition hesitating to support the Justice Minister. Last week, the party's head and Former Prime Minister and current Finance Minister Igor Matovič called on Kolíková to step down. Peter Pollák, an Ordinary People MP, agreed with Matovič stating that the Justice Minister had failed to clear up all doubts concerning the reasons for which Smer-SD wants her dismissed. However, his party colleague MP Ján Krošlák claimed that the minister enjoys his support. "It's sad that we're dealing with motions from Smer-SD, a party whose only aim is to topple the Government and trigger a snap general election," said Krošlák.
Governing We Are Family party caucus head Peter Pčolinský said that the caucus has no problem with Kolíková after she answered all their questions and cleared up all doubts.
A parliamentary session with a no-confidence motion in Kolíková started on Monday morning. It was initiated by opposition's Smer-SD chair Robert Fico who claims that the business deals of a family firm that Kolíková was involved with before her state tenure, invite suspicions. Kolíková is also criticized for the Justice Reform which she is planning to introduce.
At the beginning of their session, MPs voted to hold talks until 7pm. The motion to vote by secret ballot did not pass.
