Slovak carmakers, which are some of the largest employers in the country, continue to face production struggles due to problems on the global market. Nitra-based Jaguar Land Rover plant is to suspend production for nine days, with the reason being the unfavourable situation with a lack of semiconductor components. The production suspension is set to start on May 27 and last until June 4. "Like other carmakers, our plant is currently experiencing supply chain disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the global availability of semiconductors, which has an impact on our production plans and our ability to meet demand for some of our vehicles," said corporate relations manager at Jaguar Land Rover Miroslava Remenárová.
Trnava-based carmaker Stellantis Slovakia (previously Peugeot-Citroën) announced that its production would continue to be suspended until Thursday, May 27, even though it was supposed to be stopped only until Sunday. The carmaker has had production issues since early May, with the main reason being a shortage of components on the global market.
The Volkswagen plant in Bratislava partially suspended its production for two weeks at the beginning of May. The Kia plant in Žilina only stopped its production for one day in March this year.
Slovakia is the world's leading car maker per-capita.
