The gastro sector has been struggling with staffing shortages after being allowed to fully re-open following the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Magdelena Koreny, spokesperon for the initiative Help for the Culinary Industry. She pointed to the fact that entrepreneurs within the sector are having financial problems and many such holdings lack waiters, waitresses, chefs and cooks.
The spokeswoman claimed that this is because the industry, following a year full of anti-pandemic measures, has become, in the eyes of employees, a sector entailing employment risks, and so demand for these jobs hasn't been increasing. "Many restaurants have had to part ways even with their long-term employees and they'll need to replace them. According to our survey, more than 55 percent of businesses in the industry lack cooks and waiters especially," said Koreny, noting that the recruitment of new staff has been problematic since the recent relaxation of anti-pandemic measures.
