Visitor rates at hotels and boarding houses increased in May 2021, however up to only 22 percent of the pre-pandemic level, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday. Accommodation facilities were visited by almost 120,000 people. This is twice the number of the previous month and three times the values of a year ago. At the same time, last May and April noted record declines, likely due to the measures taken against the COVID-19 pandemic. Mainly domestic tourists were accommodated in Slovakia in May, whose number exceeded 100,000 and they accounted for 86 percent of guests. Meanwhile, 16,000 foreign visitors used accommodation services, which was the highest number in the last 7 months. Most foreign visitors (40 percent) visited the Bratislava region, followed by regions of Trnava, Prešov and Žilina.
