One in six Slovak households spends nothing at all on entertainment and hobbies, according to a survey of spending by Slovak households on entertainment and hobbies carried out by a company called KRUK Czech and Slovak Republic. It also indicates that some 51% of Slovaks spend a tenth of their family budgets on entertainment monthly.
The survey further showed that 31% of households spend 10-30% of their income on leisure-time activities. Slovaks spend the largest sums on travelling and weekend trips and the lowest on cultural events. The survey showed that although Slovaks like to spend money on entertainment and other leisure-time activities, expenditures on them decrease along with personal or family income. Slovaks borrow money for holidays only very rarely.
Respondents engaged in IT and financial services spend the highest sums on their hobbies and entertainment. Men spend more on their hobbies than women. In addition to students, Slovaks of productive age spend money on entertainment. Such expenditures start to fall when people reach 55.
Slovaks spend almost 27% of their entertainment budgets on travelling and trips. Some 20% goes on visiting restaurants and cafes in order to meet friends. Slovak households spend some 13% on sport and 14% on gardening. Less than 5% of expenditures in this area goes on culture, which includes concerts, cinemas, theatre performances, exhibitions and other cultural events.
People aged between 25 and 34 spend the highest portion of their entertainment budgets on travel, while meeting friends at restaurants and pubs is especially popular among students aged between 18 and 24. Moreover, gardening is most popular among pensioners.
