Addressing the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE), the Environment Ministry has claimed that it views it as a civic platform and that it supported activities taking place within the WeAreEU RoadShow 2021 in August.
Under the roadshow, representatives of the ministry discussed topics concerning the protection of the environment. These events took place in Zilina, Poprad, Kosice and Bratislava.
"The Environment Ministry welcomes and supports civic initiatives, whether Slovak or transnational, that put pressure on politicians to take measures to improve the quality of the environment," stated the ministry’s press department.
Meanwhile, Greenpeace Slovakia director Katarína Juríková stated in reaction to the current conference that the EU should listen to the public more. "What is really needed is to act in accordance with what the EU has already heard from the public. People are worried about the consequences of the climate crisis and ecological collapse and want real measures to be taken quickly and fairly to solve these problems," said Juríková.
The CoFoE will garner comments and ideas that could result in specific recommendations on reforms of the EU until the spring of 2022. Anyone can register and express their opinions or comments on the functioning of the EU on the official website of the conference - futureu.europa.eu, which is jointly sponsored by the European Parliament, the European Council and the European Commission.
