A tenth of Slovaks earned less than €800 a month, another tenth earned more than three times as much. This stems from an analysis carried out by the portal Platy.sk. The gross median salary last year according to the portal's data was €1,288, and this means that half of Slovaks had less. The first tenth of Slovaks with the lowest pay earned €800, but such a person with no children and thus no untaxable allowance would actually receive €632 each month. "On the other hand, when we look at the other end, the best paid tenth of Slovaks, their basic gross salary was more than €2,450 in 2021," stated the spokesperson for the portal Nikola Richterova. Under the same assumption, this would mean a net salary of €1,790 each month. The greatest regional difference is between the Bratislava and Presov regions. While in the Bratislava region, half of people have gross salaries of more than €1,520 each month, in the Presov region it is €1,000. The analysis also showed that higher education brings even greater differences between pay classes. Only half of people in the Bratislava region with a higher degree of education had gross salaries lower than €1,750 last year. However, in the Presov region, the median pay for university-educated employees was €1,100. At €1,620, the median pay in the Kosice region was relatively close to that in the Bratislava region. However, the regional differences are not so great for employees who did not pass the final exams at secondary school (maturita). In the Bratislava region, their gross median salary last year was €1,000, which was a comparable figure with the other regions.
