According to winter forecasts published by the European Commission (EC) on Thursday, in 2022, Slovakia is expected to record the sixth highest growth in gross domestic product (GDP) in the Eurozone and in the EU as a whole - at 5 percent. With expected growth of 5.1 percent in 2023, it is set to take top spot in both areas. The Commission stated that the recovery of the Slovak economy slowed down in the second half of 2021 due to fluctuations in global supply and a worsening of the pandemic situation. After a sharp slowdown in the third quarter of 2021, annual GDP growth is expected to be at 3 percent. Forecasts for next year make Slovakia a record breaker, with the Eurozone's growth expected to stand at 2.7 percent of GDP and the increase in the EU as a whole at 2.8 percent.
