Energy poverty is a widespread problem across Europe. However, a common European definition does not exist. In Slovakia, this topic is beginning to be discussed more widely. “I sometimes feel that this is a forbidden topic. Everyone is afraid of it. Many people say that only when there is an exact definition for this topic, we will begin to address it.” says Dušana Dokupilova a researcher at the Slovak Academy of Sciences' Institute for Forecasting. A detailed investigation about energy poverty in Slovakia is being prepared by the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Experts from the Office for Regulation of Network Industries are also preparing a new version of the Concept for the protection of energy-vulnerable consumers. This contains, among other things, concrete proposals for comprehensive and systemic solutions. Andrej Juris, chairman of the Office for Regulation of Network Industries, reveals more in an interview.
