On March 29, Slovakia markes 20 years of being a NATO member country. The Slovak Republic declared its interest in joining the Euro-Atlantic Community as early as by the establishment of the Slovak Republic on 1 January 1993. All governments from 1994 until its accession in 2004 have made NATO membership one of their top priorities.
