Parliament wants regulations for law firms representing state

Parliament wants the Government to come up with measures that would regulate legal fees for law firms which represent the state in legal disputes. This plea comes from an opposition-sponsored special parliamentary session held on Wednesday, which was aimed at discussing the scandal connected to the tens of millions of euros paid out to the private law company of Radomír Bžán as remuneration for the firm's legal services in the court dispute Slovakia had with the Italian company Enel regarding the Gabčíkovo power plant. Even though opposition initiated the parliamentary meeting, its original motion asking the Government to accept responsibility for the scandal did not come through. Meanwhile, the Economy Minister Peter Žiga replaced the former board of directors and dismissed the supervisory board of the state-run MH Manažment, which signed the contract with Bžán's law firm.
