Controversial diplomat from Vietnam is back in Bratislava

The Slovak diplomat from Vietnam, Le Hong Quang, is already back at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is meeting with relevant ministry officials, said Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák on Wednesday. Quang, an economic diplomat temporarily in charge of the Slovak Embassy in Hanoi, returned to Slovakia in connection with suspicions of corruption at the embassy, reported by the German media. According to them, at the time when Quang served as an adviser to the former Prime Minister Robert Fico, he had attended a meeting between the then Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák and a Vietnamese delegation in Bratislava. During that time, a car parked there was allegedly used to kidnap Vietnamese citizen Trinh Xuan Thanh from Germany, where he had applied for asylum. Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini said that neither the Slovak Intelligent Service (SIS) nor the Military Intelligence had information on Slovakia providing assistance in connection with the abduction of the Vietnamese entrepreneur.
