Slovak Football National Team coach resigns

On Sunday, Ján Kozák, coach of the Slovak National Football Team resigned from his post after five and a half years. He thus became the longest serving person in this post. His decision came one day after a 1:2 loss to the Czech Republic in the UEFA Nations League, which left Slovakia at the tail end of the table. "Ján Kozák was in a difficult situation when he took over the post in 2013 and he has managed to do an excellent job with the Slovak national football team," reads the statement of Ján Kováčik, President of the Slovak Football Association (SFZ)

Under Kozák, Slovakia qualified for the European Championship for the first time and even advanced from the group stage to the round of 16, where it lost to the then reigning world champion - Germany. According to the SFZ, the national team will be coached during Tuesday's (October 16) training match against Sweden in Stockholm by team assistant Štefan Tarkovič.
