Milan Lučanský to be Police Corps president

On Monday, Interior Minister Denisa Saková appointed Milan Lučanský as the new Police Corps President. In his reaction, the opposition Ordinary People party chair Igor Matovič criticized the process of naming the new candidate, which is controlled by the coalition. However, he said that Lučanský was a class above his predecessor. "The decision should be respected. We hope that time will show that not only the Minister but also as many citizens as possible can be satisfied with it," wrote Ľubomír Galko of the opposition Freedom and Solidarity party.

Lučanský has served in this post as a temporary President for one year. He took the position after Tibor Gašpar stepped down in April 2018 following the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová and mass protests in the Slovak streets triggered by the tragedy.
