Demolition of Rázsochy hospital to begin soon

Demolition of the unfinished building in Bratislava-Rázsochy - at one time planned to be a top hospital in the Slovak capital - should begin by the end of June, Health Minister Andrea Kalavská (Smer-SD nominee) said at a press conference along with Prime minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) on Thursday. Kalavská also said that within ten days she would announce a competition for the project design of a new university hospital at the same location. Construction of the original hospital began in 1985 but was plagued by delays and lack of funding over the next three decades, and was never completed. Pellegrini stated at the press conference that the new hospital should be finished by the end of the next electoral term - in other words by 2024. Meanwhile, the financial group Penta is building a new private hospital in the area of Bory. Pellegrini has acknowledged that the state hospital could be finished some two years after Penta's.
