Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) notched his 12th Tour de France stage win, as he sprinted to victory in stage five, finishing the 175.5-km hilly route from Saint-Die-des-Vosges to Colmar at 4:02:33 h. Ending up second was Belgian Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma), followed by Italian Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott). "You must be patient and victories will come. But it also takes luck and a good day. I would like to thank all the colleagues on my team, they did a superb job and, finally, we have the victory. Today we were in control throughout the entire stage," Sagan said in a post-race interview.
