President: Fight against climate crisis should be Slovakia’s priority

The fight against the climate crisis should be a priority of the whole country and of all humanity, Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová stated on Wednesday. On the same day, she met with representatives of environmental non-profit organisations and initiatives. "We may be the first generation to experience the effects of climate change, and we may be the last generation to have a chance to reverse this trend. There are big challenges ahead but the sooner we start dealing with them, the better the chance of a positive change," stated the president, referring to Slovakia's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050. She also called for sensitivity to social and economic consequences of these changes. One of the organisations the president received was the Fridays for the Future movement, which is organising a climate strike in Bratislava on Friday, September 20.
