A Slovak native and survivor of the Buchenwald concentration camp, Alex Moskovic - who was also a prominent activist when it came to teaching about the atrocities committed during WW II - died on Saturday at the age of 88. Moskovic was born in Sobrance (Kosice region). When he was 13, he and his family were taken by the Nazis to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland, from which he was later transferred to the children's barracks in Buchenwald. He was the only family member to survive the camp. When the war was over, Moskovic emigrated to the USA.. In the States he worked as a sports journalist, managing to win ten Emmy awards. His fate and that of other Buchenwald survivors is captured in the movie Kinderblock 66: Return to Buchenwald, which premiered in 2012.
