The Faculty of Education at Trnava University (TU) is opening a new four-year bachelor study program on the Slovak Language in Communication for hearing impaired people. As of September 2020, Trnava will be the only university in Slovakia training professional sign language interpreters. "At the moment there are only about 25 of them, so thousands of hearing impaired Slovaks either do not have the opportunity to hire an interpreter, or they can find one only with great difficulty," said the chairman of the Trnava Association of Hearing Impaired People, Jaroslav Cehlarik, pointing to an acute shortage of sign language interpreters throughout all of Slovakia.
