Changes in law two days before the election

The Slovak Parliament in a vote at an extraordinary session on Tuesday didn't agree to Slovakia's ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (also known as the Istanbul Convention). Regarding the vote on the 13th pension payments, an amendment to the Social Insurance Act was adopted. Slovak pensioners will therefore receive their 13th pension payments as of November 2020. President Zuzana Caputova will express her opinion on the laws discussed only after the general election, which is to take place on 29 February.

Meanwhile, after the Parliament repeatedly failed to vote on the proposal to scrap highway stickers in fast-tracked proceedings, the Cabinet approved its withdrawal and will thus no longer deal with the issue.
