Bratislava City Police Chief resigns over drunk driving

Bratislava mayor Matúš Vallo has accepted the resignation of Bratislava city police commander Marek Gajdos, who was involved in a car accident last week and tested positive for residual alcohol. He stated that he fell asleep at the wheel for a split second, veered off the road and damaged his car. Nobody was injured, and nobody else's property was damaged. In order to ensure the smooth operation of the city police during this demanding period hit by coronavirus, Vallo asked Gajdos to stay in his post until the end of June. "Until then I want to announce and carry out an open public contest for this post, based on which I will be able to propose a new name to the City Council," said Vallo.
