The Slovak Accreditation Agency for Higher Education revealed new criteria for Slovak Universities, set to come into force as of September 1, 2020. The goal is to fight plagiarism with the help of modern technologies, putting more stress on academic values and shifting more responsibility on thesis supervisor and reviewers. The universities should work out and implement their individual inner systems, mechanisms and bodies to ensure quality.
Last week, Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovič confessed to having plagiarized his Master thesis in the late 1990s. In recent weeks, Education Minister Branislav Groehling, current Speaker of Parliament Boris Kollár and in 2018 former Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko have been accused of plagiarism.
