Climate change and economic cooperation discussed by Korčok and Baker

Future relations between the EU and the UK, the fight against the climate change, and current foreign affairs. These were some of the topics discussed by Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok and new British Ambassador to Slovakia Nigel Baker at their first official meeting. "I believe that both sides will do their best to achieve an ambitious, balanced and mutually fair agreement about the future EU-UK relationship," stated Korčok, adding that besides economic cooperation, the focus should also be oriented towards the rights of the Slovak community living in the UK.

The UK, as co-organizer of next year's UN Climate Conference COP26 in Glasgow, is interested in raising global ambitions in the fight against climate change. "However, the ambitious climate commitments must be balanced by mechanisms to protect the competitiveness of our economy. In this context, we will use climate diplomacy as a tool in our foreign policy," Korčok added.
