Michal Aláč becomes head of Slovak Intelligence Service

On Thursday, Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová appointed Michal Aláč to the post of Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) head. Born in 1985, Aláč has occupied several posts at SIS during his career. He studied criminal law at Trnava University and law at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. One of the most important tasks for the new director of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) will be to boost the general public's trust in the management of intelligence and its image in the eyes of foreign partners and allies, in order for them to be confident that SIS is operating as an intelligence service of a democratic country where the rule of law applies, said the President when appointing Aláč to the post. The post of SIS head had been left vacant after previous chief Vladimír Pčolinský was detained by the police and remanded in custody in March. Subsequently, president Čaputova dismissed him at his own request. Both Aláč and Pčolinský are nominees of the coalition We Are Family party.
